Keep these parts of the 2026 US example together

A reading aid for one order, not a product choice. This is a paraphrase; the complete authorized English wording is in the original letter.

PartActual scope
Product identitiesAppendix A: MR0000254.PD1, .PD3, .PD5, .PD6 and .PD7—not every product of a brand or category.
Comparison and behaviourConventional cigarettes; complete switching, not continuing cigarettes alongside the specified system.
Claim endpointProduction of harmful/potentially harmful chemicals and the body's exposure; not a personal disease-risk percentage.
Jurisdiction and termUnited States; letter issued 17 April 2026, effective for five years, subject to withdrawal and surveillance.

An old headline is not the current order

The renewal concerns five specified identities: two holder/charger systems and three tobacco consumables. Appendix A distinguishes them individually. Matching a familiar logo is not enough; another generation or consumable is not automatically covered. The current FDA list marks the original 2020 and 2022 entries expired and links the 2026 renewal. Read the dated action, not an undated screenshot.

The letter's information explains heating without burning, reduced production of harmful or potentially harmful chemicals, and reduced bodily exposure when conventional cigarettes are replaced completely. Those are connected clauses, not separate slogans that can be reassigned to a different product or way of using it.

[1][2][3]

The word ‘completely’ changes the comparison

Appendix C specifically requires checking whether users understand that the exposure comparison is with combustible cigarettes, not with other tobacco products. It also distinguishes complete switching from cutting down on cigarettes while using the specified products. Omitting this condition changes what the authorized information says. Explaining that condition is not advice to start or switch.

Exposure, disease risk and safety are different claims. A lower measured chemical exposure is not a percentage reduction in your chance of disease, and ‘authorized for marketing’ is not ‘FDA approved’. FDA's tobacco public-health standard is not the safe-and-effective standard used for medical products. Do not turn a tobacco order into a quitting-treatment claim.

[2][4]

A continuing authorization is still a limited decision

The 2026 letter specifies five years and possible withdrawal. Required postmarket work examines understanding, actual use—including dual use and complete switching—and adverse experiences. Requiring those studies is not the same as their future results already being known. This US decision does not establish authorization or advertising rules in another country.

There is no safe tobacco product; people who do not use tobacco should not start. Personal health and quitting-support questions belong with qualified local help, not an advertisement's claim reader. NHS Better Health provides quitting information in England. This page neither selects a product nor needs your tobacco history or health details.

What to keep in mind

  • Retain the exact product, comparator and behaviour condition.
  • Read the current original order, not a recycled headline.
  • Exposure modification is not personal risk reduction, safety certification or treatment approval.
